As you may know, I am a new vegan. This is a decision I have made due to health problems (another story for another time), my love and compassion for animals and total disgust at the cruelty in the meat, diary and egg industries.
So, the other day I came across a video which was posted on Twitter “101 Reasons to Go Vegan” which you can watch on YouTube by clicking here. This is a fantastic video, which really made me think. It is definitely worth a watch for all animal lovers, even if you are a meat eater with no desire to become a veggie. Anyway, part of the video touches on a topic which never even crossed my mind. Are humans designed to eat meat? As I mentioned, my vegan decision was based mainly on the health benefits and the fact I do not want to take part in the cruelty. If you love animals, don’t eat them right? There is no way I could kill an animal and then eat it so I figured it’s not right for me to eat that animal just because someone else did the dirty work. But what if humans are actually herbivores (designed to eat a plant based diet)?
What if the reason a vegan diet is healthier is simply because we are not carnivores (eat only meat) or even omnivores (eat both meat and plants) as many of us believe. What if it’s not that we can “survive” by eating a plant based diet, it’s actually the diet our bodies are designed for? Well, it is certainly worth thinking about.
While doing some research I found some very compelling scientific evidence which support this and if you look at our bodies in comparison to various animals, it’s pretty hard to ignore. One of the articles I came across was this one which has a handy wee table at the top for a comparison.
This has definitely given me something to think about and look into more.
Have a look at the article and the video and I would love to hear what you all think.
